“Ma” is a response to a late night interview on a chat show where the mother of a murdered young man told her story of having to sit through the trial of his murderer. She thought that her seat was the worst seat upon which anyone could ever have to sit, and then she saw the mother of the murderer and thought differently. This film is a tribute to all of those who have been hurt by the choices made by another. “Ma” made its premiere at “Disappear Here Film Festival” in Donegal in September 2018, winning “Best Actor” for Anne Marie Kelly. It then went on to “The Female Eye”, the “Toronto Irish Film Festival”, “Brief Encounters” Women in Film & Television at the IFI, Dublin, and it will enjoy three screenings in May 2019 as part of the Fastnet Film Festival, Schull, Cork.
Anne Marie Kelly (Singer/Actress/Psychotherapist) won “Best Actor” at
“Disappear Here Film Festival”, for her role in “Ma”, which she wrote,
directed and produced. The same film will show in the “Toronto Irish Film
Festival” in Spring 2019. She has enjoyed roles in David Freyne’s “The
Cured” and Baz David’s “The History of this Moment”. She studied the Meisner
Technique with Momentum Acting Studios, and Improvisation with the Gaiety
School of Acting. March 2018 saw the release of her multimedia exhibition
“Virgin Mother Whore … Woman” and from that, the album of the same name.
Alongside ran her photographic/psychotherapeutic exhibition “Roots &
Wings”. She has worked as a singer and independent songwriter for twenty
five years in Ireland and has enjoyed collaborations with some of the finest
musicians from the genres of jazz and rock. Alongside her career in the
arts, she is a practicing psychotherapist specialising in the areas of
addiction and emotional release with a previous background in business

Ciarán is a freelance cinematographer and videographer. His collaboration
with Anne Marie Kelly, “Ma”, won Best Actor for her at “Disappear Here
Film Festival” in Donegal and has also been accepted in to the Toronto
Irish Film Festival.
He started filmmaking as a child and has been obsessed ever since. Over the last 3 years he has turned this passion into a full time career. He has worked for a broad range of clients, from multinational corporations to TG4. Last year he made over 15 music videos, from up and coming artist such as “Stolen City” and “Ruby Tina” to long time established artists such as “Tommy Fleming”. He shot in Rwanda Africa for Bóthar and even got the pleasure of having Bosco in front of his lens.
Ciarán is a RED gemini owner operator; his aim has always been to bring the highest visual fidelity to all the projects he works on and to try and capture the best possible images to bring a story from page to screen.
Some examples of his work outside of “Ma” mentioned above, are available at the following links:
Thanks to support from the Arts Council, John recently graduated from
the Film Scoring programme at UCLA Extension, Los Angeles, having studied
with some of Hollywood's most resilient and innovative composers, orchestrators
and sound artists including Charles Bernstein (A Nightmare on Elm Street),
Fletcher Beasley (The Last Tycoon), Brian Ralston (Being Rose) and Jon
Kull (How to Train your Dragon: The Hidden World, Mary Poppins Returns).
He obtained a Bachelor in Music Education from Trinity College and DIT Conservatory of Music, Dublin, specialising in piano (studied with Roy Holmes) and composition (studied with David Brophy and Eibhlis Farrell). He has been composing and arranging music for film 2005, including the award winning short, “Ma” by Anne Marie Kelly and the well received “Dark Guest” directed by Eddy Ballardi.
He specialises in organising and managing music projects from conception to completion with an emphasis on arrangement and orchestration. His live performance projects range from large bands where his capacity as a multi instrumentalist prove him an essential component, to smaller outfits such as jazz trios, duets with vocalists and instrumentalists etc.
